How To make New Friends When You get To a School

Being socially active at school is very important for the mental & social development of children. Authorities at BDMI, one of the top CBSE schools in Kolkata, believe that students should be aware of how to make friends at school for their overall progress in life. Here are a few tips-

1. Find your group

Going to school can actually be a lot of fun. Whether you're into music, pro wrestling, or horses, find some other kids that you can talk to it about and be friends with. It is very important to remember that a lasting friend is someone who shares a common interest as you. Here’s a few simple ways to do it-
Break time is obviously a great time to make friends. If you see someone doing the same thing you like just go over and say "Hi" to him/her.
Forget about being popular, or even hanging out with the popular kids. You should worry about hanging out with who you like, and don’t hesitate to avoid the people you don't.
Get a best friend. This way you can have someone who really understands you.

2. Join an after school club

A great way to make friends is by joining a formal club or even a group at your school. For example, you may join the music club, chess club or the dancing club. Check out the options offered at your school and then consider joining one that lines up along with your hobbies.
If the clubs doesn’t sound appealing, then consider starting one at your school. For instance, you could have an after school video game club. Once you have come up with your own group and you are able to determine how it will benefit your school, you will need to find a teacher who would be ready to sponsor it. Or better yet start it yourself with some friends.
You may also try joining a club that you have no interest in. This is in order to meet some people you might not be able to meet normally. Even if you're not a great singer, do try making the school choir work for you. You should use it as a chance to socialize and also to make friends.

3. Try a team sport

Some schools offer team sports which allows you to compete against other schools. You can even make friends with your fellow students. It is often the case that most of the students have never played before. This is the reason it's more or less an even playing field at most schools. Soccer, track and field, basketball, and football are definitely among the schools that can make school a little more fun.
In case you don't want to play sports, do consider attending the games, as well as, cheering on your team along with your friends. Usually, you can get in for free, and it can definitely be a great way of making new buddies.
Sports is not for everyone. In fact students sometimes overemphasize the need for playing sports. Yes it can be a great way to learn skills, make friends, and have fun at the same time. But it can be a needless source of stress as well. It is definitely not recommended to play games that add to your stress. So only play games that you actually enjoy.

4. Please loosen up

You may take a practical joke personally and get your feelings hurt, or you could simply laugh it off and start planning your response joke. It can even end up as an epic one. One way to make friends is by being a little less serious at school. You should learn to cut loose every now and then. School is not supposed to be your dungeon. It can actually be a great place to have fun. Just expect to have fun and you'll start having fun and make friends as well.
It is only natural that kids like to be friends with kids who seem fun and funny & not with kids who seem serious or angry. Want to make friends? Then remember to be loose and comfortable.
